Measurement

Calibrate a measurement plane and verify geometric dimensions with tolerances.

The Measurement module locates a part in the camera image and measures configured distances, diameters, areas and angles. It is intended for dimensional checks where the result must be expressed in millimetres, square millimetres or degrees.

Prerequisites

  • A physical Camera module in a previous block.
  • A stable camera position, focus and exposure.
  • The BIION-D calibration board placed flat on the same plane as the part.

Changing the source camera or its relevant image settings requires a new calibration and reference capture.

Configuration Workflow

The editor guides you through three steps.

1. Calibrate

Select the image produced by the Camera module, place the calibration board on the measurement plane and select Calibrate. Keep the board flat and still until the operation completes.

The module records the relationship between image pixels and real dimensions. If calibration fails, improve board visibility, lighting and focus before trying again.

2. Capture

Remove the board, position a representative part and capture the reference image. This image is used to define the part position and the measurement areas.

3. Measure

Choose a tool and draw it on the reference image:

Tool Use
Distance Measure the distance between two edges
Diameter Measure a circular feature
Area Measure the area inside a rectangular region
Angle Measure the angle between two detected edges

For every dimension, set a nominal value or acceptable limits. The available specification modes include symmetric, asymmetric and unilateral tolerances, direct limits, minimum-only and maximum-only checks.

Results

During inference, the module locates the part and evaluates every configured dimension. Each result is reported as:

  • Pass when the value is within its specification;
  • Fail when the value is outside its specification;
  • Adjust measurement area when the feature cannot be measured reliably;
  • Invalid specification when the configured limits are inconsistent;
  • Measurement only when no acceptance limits were entered.

If the part cannot be located, the module reports that its dimensions cannot be verified. Open the visual result to review measured values and their positions on the image.

Recalibration clears the current reference image and dimensions. Use it after moving the camera, changing the measurement plane or changing image geometry.

Optional Height Compensation

For features above the calibration plane, height compensation can be configured using the camera-to-plane distance and the feature height. Use this only when those physical distances are known and repeatable.
